Bald Head Island is located off the southeastern coast of North
Carolina, between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic ocean. Bald Head
Island is accessible only by boat or passenger ferry. Bald Head Island
is a 2,000 acre resort which boasts 14 miles of unspoiled beaches, an
800-acre maritime forest, freshwater lagoons, salt marsh creeks and an
18-hole championship golf course.
Bald Head Island is a unique vacation resort where you can enjoy the
tranquility of a morning sunrise or the excitement of a day-long sailing
regatta. There are at least three restaurants open on the island during
the summer including an open-air steam bar, an indoor dining restaurant
and restaurants at the Bald Head Island Club and the Shoals Club. There
are a few gift and novelty shops on the island as well as a market that
offers a variety of groceries including produce, deli items, film and
DVD rentals.
Whatever your please, prepare to relax. There are no cars on the island.
Visitors explore the island via golf cart, bike or on foot. Rich in history,
Bald Head Island offers much to discover. Built in 1817, "Old Baldy" is
North Carolina's oldest lighthouse. It is open to the public and offers a
spectacular view. Old Baldy keeps a watchful eye on the maritime forest
below, where nature trails offer the inquisitive a peek at a variety of
wildlife.
